Having already developed an app for a NYC-based health-tech firm, Forfend, word of mouth spread quickly — and that’s how we ended up working with Poplin on their health-tech app.
Health tech is inspiring
The Covid-19 pandemic prompted many healthcare organizations to accelerate their digital plans — connected data was crucial in fighting the pandemic.
It put health-tech companies on the forefront of innovation, with developers creating apps that harness the power of health data and help people live healthier lives.
A new version in just two months
Poplin wanted us to upgrade the existing platform — but we decided a rewrite was the better path. The old version took many months. We shipped the new one in two.
Four steps to a healthier start
Every step is important
We weren’t alone in this process.
Our designers and developers worked extensively with ORDRS, a company whose API is linked to Quest Diagnostics (a world-class provider of diagnostic services and lab data) and a network of doctors who advise on improving health.
Our team also handled the Stripe integration for payment processing.
Problem? No problem
The biggest challenge was the Premium Package.
Poplin wanted it to include all 49 different tests, but laboratories could only perform 35 of them and send results back to ORDRS.
We retained the contents of the package. In the backend we split it into two, so the user feels as if they bought only one. Once results are in, they’re merged and sent to the user.
Everything under control
It is essential to protect medical records and other individually identifiable health information — so we followed strict rules around their collection, use, and sharing.
The deliverance
After many tests, the app was ready.
It’s easy to use and genuinely helpful for anyone considering pregnancy.
Beyond all measure
We delivered an app that measures not just hormones, but health: hormone levels, vitamin levels, blood type and status, immune status, nutrient status, stress levels, and more.
Once results are in, a pre-pregnancy score is calculated. If the score is too low, the user gets advice on how to improve their health.
We continue to support Poplin — including upgrades such as at-home sample collection.

Kodius has been incredibly efficient in getting work done. They've been able to overdeliver for the price point and the time and capital invested compared to many of the other providers I spoke with.
